The Community for Passionate Jelly Roll Quilters
Congratulations to Kay Lockie, winner of our Quilts4London competition! Her lovely pennant depicts the London skyline and was chosen by Linda Clements (author of The Quilter's Bible) who said of it:It’s bold and colourful, has an iconic view of London and shows skill with patchwork and quilting. If I were an international athlete (excuse me while I splutter with laughter!), then I would like to receive this.
The Quilts4London Project started in June 2009 with an idea to produce something as a gift for all the athletes taking part in the Olympic and Paralympic Games in 2012. The idea of pennants (traditionally exchanged at friendly sporting events) seemed perfect and the concept was born.
Although initially created by a group of Quilters (hence the name) it has now blossomed into a National and International project of creative, imaginative and beautiful textile pennants all of which will go towards the target of 14,000 pennants needed to give one to each competing athlete.
The project is community-based and almost entirely self-funded through the donations and goodwill of supporters and people like you. On a continuing programme of development and involvement, the Project has run a number of regional workshops, sewing days, various shows and displays and has an ever expanding itinery of events and participation over the months leading up to the Games. The pennants are being displayed and exhibited in a number of locations as the Games themselves approach.
If you entered, and even if you didn't but are thinking of making something for Quilts4London, please don't forget to send your pennant to Quilt4London, 39 Hunting Gate, Hemel Hempstead, Hertfordshire HP2 6NX, UK, before the new deadline of 15th February 2012.
