The Community for Passionate Jelly Roll Quilters
Welcome to the JRQ Block of the Month
Over the next year this page will offer you a new quilt block once a month, absolutely free. The design is by Pam and Nicky Lintott, and if you are impatient or fall in love with the quilt pattern and want to own it all in one go, you're in luck! The pattern is available in a beautiful full-colour book, Jelly Roll Sampler Quilts, which includes ten stunning sampler quilts and over 50 blocks. You can buy it here, here, here and from all sorts of other good booksellers.
Getting Started
Meanwhile, back in cyberland, here are the essential instructions for getting started. Don't skip this bit - it includes all sorts of vital information.
A bright idea from Titi: some of the blocks include half-square triangles cut from jelly roll strips, which can be done with an Omnigrid 96 ruler (or something similar), but if you don't have one of those, there's a neat tutorial on making the half-square triangles with a normal square quilting ruler here.
Oh, and because Lindy suggested it (and it was a good suggestion), we've enabled the 'comment box' at the bottom of this page. This is a place for you to post photos of your completed blocks, and to share tips, questions, ideas and well-deserved admiration for other people's piecing. Now, back to the quilt...

Please note that there is a tiny error in the Block Three instructions. The third instruction after the heading 'Making the half square triangle units' should say 'Sew four colour C [not B] squares together to form the centre of the block'. This is clear in the accompanying diagram.

Comment by Jane Makepeace on March 30, 2012 at 15:04 That's the last set of instructions! I hope this block of the month has been fun for everyone. Our thanks once again to Pam and Nicky Lintott for the gorgeous pattern.
I'll leave the all instructions up for those of you that joined in recently and are catching up!
Have pattern, have fabric - all I need is some spare time to get started!
this bom is awesome!
Oh okay! I found the name of the Moda Jelly Roll in the pdf. I love this quilt! So beautiful! I might have to learn more about the jelly roll process. I think I'm hooked!
Cindy
Hello,
I'm new to the jelly roll process and have a question. I am not making the quilt but to those of you who are, is this a specific jelly roll that is purchased to do this quilt? Does it have a name? Or, does everyone just chose their own colors? Thanks!

Comment by Jane Makepeace on January 5, 2012 at 14:49 Hello Karen
Congrats on sticking with it! You have only two more blocks to go. Number eleven is my favourite. And I'm not just saying that to spur you on. Honest.
Comment by karen on January 4, 2012 at 23:49 As a mixed media artist I usually work in a far less structured way but I am really enjoying the traditional and evenly paced construction of this quilt. Several friends bet me that I would not be able to stick to the ordered way of working but so far, so good!
Comment by Jane Makepeace on October 31, 2011 at 14:13 Here it is Karen! And anyone else making the quilt.
Please post photos of your finished creations!
Comment by Jane Makepeace on September 20, 2011 at 7:56 I recently purchased this book and love it. I have started on block 1 and am using Deb Strain's boy-meadow friends. Can't wait to finish the first one and see photos of others.

Comment by Jane Makepeace on July 13, 2011 at 13:05 You're the first to post a block photo! And it's lovely. Congratulations!
I have a feeling one block a month is going to be a little slow for you, Titi.
