THE COMPETITION IS NOW CLOSED

But we're leaving this information here in case you need to refer back to it,
or memorize for next year!

Before you enter the Jelly Roll Dream Challenge competition make sure you read all of these terms and conditions.

1. The competition is subject to these terms and conditions. By entering, you agree to be bound by them.

2. Publisher David & Charles Ltd (D&C) is compiling a book of 12 original quilt designs with step-by-step instructions on how to make the quilts, and is offering a $2,500 prize (or currency equivalent according to exchange rate at time of awarding) and a JANOME Horizon MC700QCP sewing machine for the best entry in its competition to find 12 outstanding original quilt designs.

3. For the second best entry in the competition, D&C is offering a prize of $1,500 (or currency equivalent according to exchange rate at the time of awarding) and a JANOME MC4900QC sewing machine. For the third best entry, D&C is offering a prize of $1,000 (or currency equivalent according to exchange rate at the time of awarding) and a JANOME JP760 sewing machine.

4. All 12 selected entrants will receive two free copies of the book and will feature in it, as well as product prizes.

How to Enter

5. To enter, submit up to five photographs of your original quilt design with notes and instructions on how to make the quilt (see How to Enter), and submit a competition entry form, either online or by post, with the required contact details. Your quilt design must use a jelly roll or forty 2 1/2in strips cut across the width of the fabric. Moda developed the concept of Jelly Rolls and Moda Jelly Rolls are available in most quilt stores. Strip rolls from other companies are also available and it is permissible to use them. It is also permissible to cut your own 2 1/2in strips. Background and border fabric is allowed up to a combined quantity of 3 yards (2.75 metres). Rotary cutting quilting rulers and squares and any specialty tools may be used but these must be clearly stated in your instructions and must be readily available.

6. The best original design, and 11 runners-up, will be judged and selected by the book’s expert authors and an expert panel of judges based on the quality and creativity of the quilt. In the absence of agreement, the determination and decision of Pam Lintott is final. The 12 finalists will be advised by July 31, 2011

7. The book’s authors (Pam and Nicky Lintott) will then liaise with the 12 selected entrants (the contributors) and thereafter will revise and finalise the various designs and longarm quilt the designs for inclusion in the book. Photographs of the making of the quilts will be published in the book, together with step-by-step instructions finalised by the authors. It is intended that the book will be published in May 2012 and that readers will then be free to attempt making the quilts themselves.

8. All entries must be received by D&C before the competition’s closing date: midnight on June 1, 2011.

Eligibility

9. Competition is open to Worldwide citizens aged 18 or over (proof of eligibility to be provided on request), either as individual entrants or as groups (see clause 21).

27. The authors will use an 80/20 cotton blend wadding and a backing of their choosing which suits the quilt. If specific backing and binding fabric is required, this must be supplied along with the quilt top.
