The Community for Passionate Jelly Roll Quilters

Hello everyone:)

I hope you all had a nice weekend!  Mine was full of sewing curtains (drapes?) for our 120 inch front window - THAT was an adventure:)

Hey - the Moda Bake Shop (be still my heart!) is having a contest - I just wanted to make sure everyone here is aware of it (though that might affect my odds:-p), here is the link:

Moda Contest

Looks like fun:)

Some questions for this week.....

1)  What is your favorite type of dessert?

2)  Do you pack a lunch for work or for your kids?  If yes, what are some of your favorites? (I am always looking for new lunch ideas!)

3)  Are you right or left handed?

4)  Have you ever re-upholstered a piece of furniture?

5)  What was the last present you received?

Quilting question of the week..

6)  What was the last fabric you purchased?

I hope everyone has a wonderful week:)

1) What is your favorite type of dessert?

Anything with meringue.  Or anything with fresh fruit.

2) Do you pack a lunch for work or for your kids? If yes, what are some of your favorites? (I am always looking for new lunch ideas!)

Packing my lunch was my big NY resolution.  I am proud to say I made my lunch every day for the month of January except one!!!  I have been packing bento box type meals, lots of little snack foods - crackers and fancy cheese; apple and peanut butter; dried fruit and nuts - I have found I am happier having foods to peck at all day.

3) Are you right or left handed?

Right.

4) Have you ever re-upholstered a piece of furniture?

Yes - and I am getting good at it!!  The first piece I did was a disaster.

5) What was the last present you received?

A book called Kitchen Counter Cooking School - it has pretty much changed how I think about food (see above about packing lunches:-D).  It is a really great book and I would recommend it to anyone.

Quilting question of the week..

6) What was the last fabric you purchased?

Urban Cowgirl by Urban Chiks for Moda showed up at my door last week and I am in LOOOOOOVE.  I adore this line....

Ooh! That Moda competition sounds cool! Do you mind if I flag it up on the JRQ home page, to make sure as many people see it as possible?

Hope your drapes/curtains were a success! Two metres?! You're a brave girl.

Here are my answers this week:

1)  What is your favorite type of dessert? I have recently discovered an excellent recipe for dark chocolate souffle cake - it's irresistible, but contains SIX eggs and more chocolate than you can shake a stick at. It is therefore for special occasions only. My arteries are furring up just typing about it. My even more wicked recent addition is chocolate-hazelnut mousse to go with it. Whip half a pint of whipping cream, dollop in some creme fraiche and stir in as much Nutella as you dare. Crikey, it's good. Just don't tell your dinner party guests about the Nutella. They'll think you're dead posh...

2)  Do you pack a lunch for work or for your kids?  If yes, what are some of your favorites? (I am always looking for new lunch ideas!) I used to make sandwiches to take to work. My only tip would be to use frozen bread - much easier to spread things on and it de-frosts during the morning in time for lunch (no need to put it in the fridge). Here's a recipe for a sort of tortilla that you could pack in a lunchbox: finely chop a leek and lightly fry it in olive oil or butter to soften it, make up 100g of couscous according to the instructions on the packet (I use vegetable stock instead of plain boiling water), add 75-100g cheese (I use cheddar, but you can use gruyere) and 2 beaten eggs. Stir in the leek, and season (unless you used stock, in which case it probably won't need any more salt). Return everything to the pan you fried the leek in. Cook gently on both sides (turning it over can be a bit tricky). Voila! Cut it into wedges - it freezes well - delicious warm, but good cold as well. You can substitute the leek for anything you like.

3)  Are you right or left handed? Right (phew, a short answer!)

4)  Have you ever re-upholstered a piece of furniture? No - I envy anyone who can.

5)  What was the last present you received? A half coconut shell containing wild bird food - my Christmas present from my two year old.

6)  What was the last fabric you purchased?

That quilt looks lovely!!!  I am really liking lots of solids in quilts right now like the white you have in there, I think it really makes the colours pop:)

Share the contest as much as you like:)  I only joke about it affecting my odds, the more the merrier!

I have one last curtain to hem (they are floor length and heavy material, does that make them drapes??), I am really, really pleased with them!!  Two full panels took almost 9 meters of fabric (mostly because of the width of the window)!!!  I will hem the second one tonight and post pics.

Thanks for the lunch recipe!  And I think I notice a weakness for chocolate!!! (I have that issue - especially if it has marzipan in it, then I am really in trouble!)

Hi All!

Some questions for this week.....

1)  What is your favorite type of dessert?

Anything chocolate is good, but the best is a warm chocolate cake :-)

2)  Do you pack a lunch for work or for your kids?  If yes, what are some of your favorites? (I am always looking for new lunch ideas!)

Yes and yes.  Sandwiches are standard.  Love it when leftovers can be brought.

3)  Are you right or left handed?

Lefty!

4)  Have you ever re-upholstered a piece of furniture?

No, but I'd like to try someday...

5)  What was the last present you received?

My parents took the whole family on a trip to Disney.  The kids loved it!

Quilting question of the week..

6)  What was the last fabric you purchased?

a Green Tea Tonga Batik Treat and some Artisan Batiks to go with it

Have a great week!

Kristine,

I just looked at the Moda website, and they have the prizes posted for the Sliced competition!  Very enticing...  and I think I may have to give it a try, but I haven't made much in the way of accessories...  anyhow, I hope you get picked!

---Laura

I saw that!!  I am really excited about:)  I think I have come up with a pretty cool, original idea - but we shall see!!!  I do love a good competition put on by Moda ;-)
